* It is boot season! Please make sure your child has the appropriate shoes in their bag for school.

* We will be working a little bit with cursive. Please continue to print. We will only have an introduction to cursive.
* January’s book report is due Friday January 31st.
* January’s book it is due February 1st.
* The 100 day project is due February 14th.

Science Vocabulary


Science chapter 2 vocabulary
mammal: an animal that has fur or hair. A mother mammal makes milk to feed her young. A cat is a mammal.
reptile: an animal that has scales and rough, dry skin. Snakes and lizards are each a kind of reptile.
amphibian: an animal that lives both in water and on land. A frog is an amphibian.
insect: an animal that has three body parts and six legs. Ants and bees are each a kind of insect.
life cycle: all the parts of an animal’s life from birth to death. The life cycle of a bird has different stages.

Future tests and quizzes

There will be a science quiz on Thursday January 23rd.
This will be based on animals that grow, vocabulary will be posted on the blog and will be going home on Tuesday.

There will be a unit test the week of January 27th.

This explains how the 100 day project will be graded. It also gives you a checklist to see if you have completed each part. Please be sure that the majority of the work is done by the student with only a little help from someone else.

100 Day Project

Here are the directions for our 100 day Projects. There are two parts. One is a creative part, and the other is a writing activity. Be sure to put your name on both parts of your project. Please keep the parts separate. There is a rubric/checklist, just like our book reports.

Please put 100 objects onto a poster board or an 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. The objects should be 100 of the same or 10 groups of 10. (examples: stickers, smiley faces, cereal-these are just ideas)

Writing Part
Please write 2 or more sentences about your favorite activities we did in 2nd grade during September and October.  
Please write 2 or more sentences about your favorite activities we did in 2nd grade during November and December. 
Please write 1 or more sentences about your favorite activities we did in 2nd grade during January.


This will be due on Friday February 14th. This is a part of each student’s math and writing grade.

We will be working some more with place value. We will review and make any necessary corrections on our math tests. Then here is some information of what we will be covering.


Place Values - Expanded Form
Each digit of a number, such as 495,786, has a different place value name.

Expanded form shows the number expanded into an addition statement. The expanded form of 495,786 is 400,000 + 90,000 + 5,000 + 700 + 80 + 6.
